Espanola Animal Shelter
Visit Their Website

Dedicated to improving the lives of companion animals in northern New Mexico. The Northern New Mexico Animal Protection Society is dedicated to finding loving homes for unwanted companion animals, to reducing pet overpopulation and the needless suffering it causes, and to teaching love and respect for animals.

The Northern New Mexico Animal Protection Society (NNMAPS) grew out of an effort started in 1990 by a caring group of citizens who called themselves the Friends of St. Francis. In 1993, the group incorporated as NNMAPS, a private, non-profit organization. The group won the contract to operate the Espanola Animal Shelter, which at that time was little more than a warehouse, where animals were held until they could be euthanized. Today the shelter, under the direction of NNMAPS, cares for nearly 5000 animals each year. No animal in need is turned away. We serve an area equal to the size of Connecticut, reaching from Santa Fe County to the Colorado border. We take great pride in our role as a resource and model for other shelters and animal welfare organizations.

For more information, contact the Espanola Animal Shelter at 505-753-8662. Check out www.espanolashelter.org for photos and descriptions of all our adoptable dogs and cats!

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training
Visit Their Website

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. More than 75 percent of our expenditures is directed to research and patient services. The Society has dedicated itself to being one of the top-rated voluntary health agencies in terms of dollars that directly fund our mission.

Team In Training® History: Team In Training (TNT) began in 1988, when Bruce Cleland of Rye, NY formed a team that raised funds and trained to run the New York City Marathon® in honor of Cleland's daughter Georgia, a leukemia survivor.

The team of 38 runners raised $322,000 for the Society's Westchester/Hudson Valley Chapter. Because of the pioneering efforts of Cleland and the Westchester/Hudson Valley Chapter, Team In Training was born and has grown into the world's largest endurance sports training program.

Join the more than 30,000 runners, walkers, cyclists and triathletes who will participate in the world's major marathons, triathlons and century rides this year on behalf of the Society.

Muscular Dystrophy Association
Visit Their Website

The Muscular Dystrophy Association is a voluntary health agency -- a dedicated partnership between scientists and concerned citizens aimed at conquering neuromuscular diseases that affect more than a million Americans.

MDA combats neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive medical and community services, and far-reaching professional and public health education. With national headquarters in Tucson, MDA has more than 200 offices across the country, sponsors 230 hospital-affiliated clinics and supports nearly 400 research projects around the world.

MDA supports more research on neuromuscular diseases than any other private-sector organization in the world. MDA scientists are in the forefront of gene therapy research and have uncovered the genetic defects responsible for several forms of muscular dystrophy, Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, a form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease), childhood spinal muscular atrophy, and several other neuromuscular conditions.

The Association's comprehensive service program includes medical examinations, flu shots, support groups, MDA summer camps for youngsters and assistance with purchase of wheelchairs and leg braces.

MDA was created in 1950 by a group of adults with muscular dystrophy, parents of children with muscular dystrophy, and a physician-scientist studying the disorder. Since its earliest days it has been energized by its number-one volunteer and national chairman, entertainer Jerry Lewis.

The Association's programs are funded almost entirely by individual private contributors. MDA seeks no government grants, United Way funding or fees from those it serves.

Cottonwood Mall will host its 1st annual Simon Evening of Giving on November 21, 2004. This private shopping and entertainment event helps charities raise funds during the holiday season. On the evening of November 21, Cottonwood Mall will be reserved exclusively for the use of shoppers who’ve purchased ten-dollar Simon Evening of Giving tickets from participating charities or from the mall. The event will feature exclusive store discounts throughout the mall, fantastic door prizes, family entertainment, food sampling and more.
